DRI seized 47 kgs of Methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 47 crore
Continuing the fight against the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the country, especially in the North Eastern Region, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 47 kgs. (4,70,000 tablets) of methamphetamine estimated to be valued at over Rs 47 crore in the international illicit drug market.
Two persons have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act 1985 in this regard.
Based on credible intelligence, a truck transporting cement was intercepted at Digarkhal Toll Gate area of Cachar District, Assam by the officers of DRI, assisted by the FGT of BSF, Silchar Sector in the night of 07.09.2023.
Rummaging of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 47 brick size packets containing 4,70,000 methamphetamine tablets. The drugs were smuggled into India from Myanmar through the Indo-Myanmar land border and were being taken to other destination.
DRI in the North Eastern Region has in 2023 so far seized more than 2800 kgs. of narcotics, such as Heroin, Methamphetamine and Ganja, valued at over Rs 199 crore and arrested 28 key persons involved in the trafficking of these narcotics.
