Drive launch to trace contacts of elderly patient who died of COVID-19 in Shillong
The health department is on the job to trace all contacts of the 67-year old woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19 and passed away recently.
Kanchan Singh, a resident of Mawbah, became the fifth person in the state who succumbed to the virulent virus on Thursday evening at North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War told reporters that since the elderly woman was a vendor, tracing all her contacts will be massive exercise.
He said there are so many tenants in the compound where the deceased was staying besides she had also met doctors and nurses.
According to him, the daughter of the elderly woman had also contracted the coronavirus infection while seven other relatives were found to be negative.
Asked, Dr War said the elderly patient is suspected to have got the infection from the positive patients, who had attended a wedding party in Khanapara, Guwahati last month.
“We are looking at the wedding attendees (as the cause for the spread) as they were moving around (after attending the wedding),” he said.
Meanwhile, the DHS informed that there are two patients – one in Shillong Civil Hospital and one in NEIGRIHMS, who are in a critical condition.
