Drug peddler kidnapped & demand Rs 5 lakh ransom in East Jaintia Hills

Six drug addicts kidnapped a drug peddler after he delivered their consignment and demanded a hefty amount for his release in East Jaintia Hills District, however their plan failed and they are now cooling their heels in police lockup.

Police informed at around 3:00 pm of Sunday, one Masoom Choudhary was kidnapped by unknown persons (5-6) and were travelling in a local taxi (ML-117172). Police said immediately, the entire district police force were kept on high alert to trace the victim.

Police said at around 4:30 pm, a team from Khliehriat Police Station was able to rescue the victim and his kidnappers were detained and brought to Khliehriat Police Station.

During preliminary interrogation, the kidnapped person turned out to be a drug peddler who had delivered one (1) soap box of heroin to the accused persons, who then kidnapped him after taking the delivery of drugs. The kidnappers had also demanded a ransom of Rs. 5 lakhs for his release.

Further, on the leading of the accused persons, the soap box was recovered from the vehicle (Local taxi bearing Regn No. ML-11-7172) and the contraband was seized in the presence of GO and independent witnesses. The net weight of the contraband was found to be 15gms.

Police seized Heroin – 15 gms, one Local Taxi ML-11-7172 and 6 Nos. of Mobile Phones.
