Durand Cup semifinal shifted to Shillong; new date announced
The Durand Cup Organising Committee has officially announced a change in the venue and date for one of the semifinal fixtures in the ongoing Durand Cup Football Tournament.
The semifinal match between Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC will now be held on Monday, August 26, at 5:30 PM, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.
This decision was prompted by the results of yesterday’s quarterfinal matches, where both teams put in electrifying performances, igniting immense excitement among their fans. Responding to strong requests from the supporters of both clubs and recognizing the cultural significance of Shillong as a football hub, the organizing committee opted to relocate the match and reschedule it for one day later.
The change aims to ensure that the fans, who are central to the tournament, can witness this crucial clash in an environment steeped in their football traditions. The committee believes this move will enhance the atmosphere and provide the teams with the passionate backing they deserve as they compete for a spot in the final. All other fixtures remain unchanged.
The committee extended its appreciation to the Department of Sports, Government of West Bengal, for their cooperation and understanding of the sentiments of fans from the Northeast, especially Meghalaya. The organizing committee also thanked the fans for their unwavering support and cooperation.
The 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup matches are being broadcast live on the Sony Sports Network (Sony Sports Ten 2 HD & SD, Sony Sports Ten 3 HD & SD) and can be streamed on SonyLiv. Commentary is available in both English (Sony Sports Ten 2) and Hindi (Sony Sports Ten 3).
