Durand Cup semifinal: Shillong Lajong FC vs. North-East United FC to be screened live at fan parks
The excitement for the first semi-final of the Durand Cup 2024 is palpable as Shillong Lajong FC prepares to face North-East United FC at J.N. Stadium on August 26.
According to a press release issued by Director of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, preparations are in full swing, with the entire state machinery involved to ensure a smooth event.
The release states that tickets for the match, which went on sale yesterday, sold out in record time. Phase 1 online tickets were snapped up in less than 6 minutes. The counters for sale of tickets at Laitumkhrah, Polo, and Police Bazaar continued offline today. An additional box office was set up at U Soso Tham Auditorium to support the sale of tickets.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, the magistrates, and the Police worked in tandem with the respective Dorbar Shnongs to create a safe and conducive environment for fans to purchase tickets, who waited patiently to purchase tickets.
As of today, both online and offline sales led to a complete sell-out of all tickets for the semi-finals, filling the stadium to its full capacity. In order to ensure that all citizens are part of the match experience beyond the 15000 spectators at the J.N. Stadium, Fan Parks are being set up on the 26th of August at multiple locations in the state capital and at district headquarters. The match will be screened at the fan park venues. Live performances from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program (MGMP) and food stalls shall also add to the stadium-like experience of the fan parks.
Designated fan parks are 1. Mawlai Madan heh (stadium), 2. R.V. Lyngdoh parking lot (opposite golf retreat) 3. Malki Ground 4. Umpling Maw-arling 5. Laitumkhrah Police Point Parking lot 6. NEHU campus.
Online redemption facility of tickets is available from 10 am on Sunday, the 25th of August, which is facilitated at the U Soso Tham Auditorium. Further advisories on match-day movement and other matters related to the match shall be released by the Government from time to time.
