East Garo Hills celebrates International Women’s Day

The NRLM, Samanda C&RD Block in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrated International Women’s Day, with the theme, “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in Covid-19 world”  celebrated at DRDA Hall – 1, Williamnagar, on 8 March where a large number of women SHG members and others participated.

The chief guest, Albert G Momin, BDO, Samanda, spoke at length about the roles of the women in the society and lauded the women Self Help Groups for their contributions towards uplifting the socio-economic conditions.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chisak G Momin, while speaking about the roles of women in the society stressed on the importance of giving education to women while Benesa N Sangma, First Class Judicial Magistrate stressed on the need to protect the women from the crimes against women and domestic violence.

The others who spoke on the day included Dr. Tredy A Sangma, Horticulturist and Dr. S Nirupama Chanu, Agriculture Engineer of KVK, Samanda Me.gagre, Ringringchi Ch Marak, Counselor of One-Stop Centre, Williamnagar and Pauline T Sangma, Coordinator of North East Regional Domestic Workers Movement.

On the day, awards also were given to the best SGHs, ICRP best cadres and the best Bank Sakhi cadres.
