East Jaintia Hills Police seizes over 550 grams of heroin, two arrested
The Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) intercepted two vehicles that were transporting illegal contraband at East Jaintia Hills in the morning of September 15.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the Superintendent of Police East Jaintia Hills, Jagpal Dhanoa informed that on Friday morning credible source information was received that suspected illegal contraband is being transported through two (2) tourist vehicles coming from Mizoram.
Accordingly, the ANTF team along with staff of Umtyra Check gate and Khliehriat PS conducted Naka at Nongsning under the command of Additional Superintendent of Police East Jaintia Hills Banraplang Jyrwa.
At around 8:30 Am, the said vehicles were detained and during the search of the first vehicle (Tata Sumo ML-05-M-1597) in the presence of independent witnesses, four (4) soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 43.33 gms were recovered and while during the search of the second vehicle (Tata Sumo MZ-01-K-3872), fourty four (44) soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 516.43 gms were recovered.
Preliminary test was conducted which indicated positive for heroin. The contraband were then seized, packed and sealed in the presence of independent witnesses.
The apprehended persons are Lorence Zomuanpuia (32 yrs), Lalmalsawa (36 yrs).
The police seized suspected heroin – 43.33 gms and 516.43 gms (Total-559.76 gms), Cash – Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1. 200 (Total – Rs. 2, 200/-), 2 (two) Mobile Phone.
In this regard, a case under appropriate sections of NDPS Act is being registered at Khliehriat PS and investigation is on to trace the backward and forward linkages.
