East Jaintia Hills Police thwart drug smuggling attempt, arrest four with 51.03 Kilo of Ganja

East Jaintia Hills Police foiled a drug smuggling attempt and arrested four persons along with 51.03 kilograms of Ganja in their vehicle on Friday night.

The arrested persons are Amit Mog (29 years old) from Panisagar North District Tripura, Rajesh Kumar Keang (33 years old) from West Tripura, Babu Mog (38 years old) from Panisagar North District Tripura and Sanjit Debarma (42 years old) from West Tripura.

The arrest was made based on credible information received about a Santro vehicle with a Tripura registration number traveling from Umkiang to Khliehriat, suspected of carrying illegal contraband. East Jaintia Hills Police set up a checkpoint at Umtyra and detained the Santro vehicle with registration number TR04 A 0254, along with the four occupants.

During a search, the illicit drugs were found concealed in hidden compartments of the vehicle. However, the alert East Jaintia Hills District Police foiled their plans and seized the 51.03 kilograms of drugs.

The police also confiscated five mobile phones, Rs 13,540 in cash and the Hyundai Santro vehicle used for transporting the contraband. A case has been registered with the Khliehriat police and an investigation is underway.
