East Khasi Hills leads with 77 gold medals, West Jaintia Hills follows with 20 gold on Day 4 at 6th Meghalaya Games
East Khasi Hills has taken a commanding lead in the medal tally at the 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 in Jowai.
As of Day 4, East Khasi Hills has secured a total of 197 medals, including 77 Gold, 52 Silver, and 68 Bronze. Their impressive performance highlights the district’s dominance and determination in this year’s games.
West Jaintia Hills follows in second place with a total of 63 medals, comprising 20 Gold, 15 Silver, and 28 Bronze. Ri-Bhoi holds the third position with 52 medals, including 12 Gold, 19 Silver, and 21 Bronze.
In the 10,000 m men’s race, Kresstarjune Pathaw from South West Khasi Hills (SWKHD) delivered a stunning performance, finishing with a time of 32:20.39 seconds to claim the gold. He was followed by Banjoplang Wanniang and Wanbok L. Mawphlang from West Khasi Hills (WKH), who secured silver and bronze, respectively, after a tightly contested finish.
The women’s 3,000 m race saw East Khasi Hills (EKHD) star Gloryfy Kurbah win her second gold of the competition, completing the race in 11:36.53 seconds. Marqueenless Ramsiej of SWKHD put up a tough fight to take silver, while EKHD’s Balarisha Thyrniang clinched bronze.
The long jump events brought plenty of excitement, with Joytiful Narlong of Ri-Bhoi District taking gold in the women’s category with an impressive leap of 4.75 meters. Her teammate Doralin Ronghi secured silver, while Tiewlari Rynshiang from WKH took bronze. In the men’s category, Renaldi Dhar from West Jaintia Hills (WJHD) claimed gold with a jump of 6.45 meters, narrowly beating Jebirth Ch Marak of West Garo Hills (WGHD), who settled for silver.
The 400m races showcased incredible speed and endurance. Kyrshanlang Shylla of WJHD sprinted to victory in the men’s final, clocking 51.46 seconds, while EKHD’s Donbok Shabong took silver. In the women’s race, WJHD’s Damika R. Lyngdoh earned gold with a time of 1:02.37 seconds, holding off Ritina Hanse of Ri-Bhoi District, who claimed silver.
The day concluded with thrilling relay races, where WJHD teams stole the show. The women’s team won the 4x100m relay in 55.44 seconds, followed by Ri-Bhoi and EKHD. In the men’s relay, WJHD once again triumphed with a time of 45.59 seconds, while EKHD and North Garo Hills (NGHD) took silver and bronze.
Currently, West Jaintia Hills (WJHD) leads the athletics medal tally with an impressive 6 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes. East Khasi Hills (EKHD) follows in second place with 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 3 bronzes, showcasing consistent performances across events. Ri-Bhoi District is in third place with 2 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze.
Other districts showing notable performances include Eastern West Khasi Hills with 31 medals (6 Gold, 13 Silver, 12 Bronze), East Jaintia Hills with 22 medals (5 Gold, 8 Silver, 9 Bronze), and West Garo Hills with 32 medals (4 Gold, 10 Silver, 18 Bronze). South West Khasi Hills has achieved 15 medals (4 Gold, 7 Silver, 4 Bronze), while West Khasi Hills has gathered 29 medals (4 Gold, 3 Silver, 22 Bronze). North Garo Hills has secured 8 medals (2 Gold, 1 Silver, 5 Bronze), South Garo Hills has earned 9 medals (1 Gold, 4 Silver, 4 Bronze), and East Garo Hills also has 9 medals (1 Gold, 3 Silver, 5 Bronze). South West Garo Hills has 1 Silver medal.
The total medal count for the games so far stands at 468, with 136 Gold, 136 Silver, and 196 Bronze medals awarded across various events.
The results released at 10:30 PM on 23rd January 2025, included outcomes from Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Softball, Sport Climbing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Lawn Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Wushu.
