East Khasi Hills sweeps 6th Meghalaya Games swimming medals
The swimming competition at the 6th Meghalaya Games, held on Thursday, saw East Khasi Hills dominate the record books with a remarkable performance. The championship, taking place at GTCC Shillong, witnessed East Khasi Hills emerging as the undisputed leader in the medal tally, securing an impressive haul of 11 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
This district’s athletes showcased their superiority in the pool, leaving other districts far behind. No medals were claimed by East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, Ri Bhoi District, and Eastern West Khasi Hills. The day belonged entirely to the athletes of East Khasi Hills, who set the benchmark for excellence in the competition.
100m Freestyle
In the men’s 100m Freestyle, Banpynshngain Syngwan from YBSC Shella clocked a time of 1:08:57 to win gold by a slim margin of 1 second over East Khasi Hills’ Shaun M. Diengdoh, who finished at 1:09:48 and claimed silver. Mebankitboklang Banai of YBSC Shella bagged the bronze with 1:10:28.
Among the women swimmers, 19-year-old Pdiangsuklang Syngwan from YBSC Shella won the gold in the 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:23:61, leaving her competition far behind. Verem G. Nongsiej from Summit Academy, Shillong, clocked 1:28:57 to claim the silver, while Sumarbiang Mawlong from East Khasi Hills bagged the bronze with 1:29:72.
100m Breaststroke
In the men’s 100m Breaststroke, Cleric Jayden Wanniang of East Khasi Hills clinched gold with a time of 1:28:24. Jenifer Rymbai of the EJH Swimming Association claimed silver, and William K. Sangmal of EKH took bronze.
In the women’s 100m Breaststroke, Sumarbiang Mawlong from East Khasi Hills secured first place with a time of 1:45:14. Ilarisuk Youroi, aged 17, from YBSC Shella, secured second place at 1:51:69, while Em-i-rta Ksoo, also from East Khasi Hills, finished closely in third with a time of 1:51:77.
50m Backstroke
The 50m Backstroke saw a riveting battle in the pool, with Banraplang Marbaniang from YBSC Shella securing first place at 0:38:22. Just milliseconds behind, Jenifer Rymbai from East Jaintia Hills claimed second at 0:38:26, followed by Shaun M. Diengdoh from East Khasi Hills in third with 0:38:66.
In the women’s 50m Backstroke, Gail B. Syiem from East Khasi Hills took first place at 0:48:78. Miss Badapjingkyrmen Thongni from South West Khasi Hills secured second place with a time of 0:57:23, followed by Miss Baiahunlang Thongni, also from South West Khasi Hills, in third at 0:57:68.
100m Backstroke
In the men’s 100m Backstroke, Shaun M. Diengdoh from East Khasi Hills claimed victory with a time of 1:29:43, followed by Banraplang Marbaniang of YBSC Shella at 1:40:46 and Fulljunesing Marngar from South West Khasi Hills District Swimming Association at 1:43:16.
In the women’s 100m Backstroke, Gail B. Syiem from East Khasi Hills secured first place with an impressive 1:49:29. Miss Badapjingkyrmen Thongni and Balasiewdor Wahlang, both from South West Khasi Hills, finished in second (2:08:01) and third (2:14:71), respectively. The event showcased intense competition and remarkable efforts from all swimmers.
4x50m Freestyle Relay
The 4x50m Freestyle Relay events showcased outstanding teamwork and speed from both men’s and women’s teams. In the men’s category, the EKH Shella-A team emerged victorious with a remarkable time of 1:59:54, followed by EKH TN-A in second place at 2:05:10 and SW-A in third at 2:05:65.
In the women’s category, the EKH TN-A team claimed first place with a time of 2:30:24. EKH Shella-A finished second at 2:35:18, while EKH TN-B secured third with a timing of 2:44:93.
4x50m Mixed Freestyle Relay
The 4x50m Mixed Freestyle Relay saw an exciting competition with EKH Shella-A claiming the top spot with an impressive time of 2:11:21. Khasi Hills TN-A followed in second place at 2:16:52, while EKH TN-B secured third with a timing of 2:19:94.
