ECI directs EROs, DEOs & CEOs to resolve pending electoral issues by March 31
In a major nationwide initiative, 4,123 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across the country have begun holding all-party meetings to address any pending polling booth-level issues in their respective Assembly Constituencies (ACs). These meetings aim to ensure smooth electoral processes and are being conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, as well as the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, along with ECI’s guidelines and instructions.
In parallel, all 788 District Election Officers (DEOs) and 36 Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) across the 28 States and 8 Union Territories have also been instructed to hold similar meetings at the district and state levels. These discussions are expected to be completed across all levels—Assembly Constituency, District, and State/UT—by March 31, 2025.

This initiative follows the directions of the Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, during a national conference held on March 4, 2025, at IIIDEM, New Delhi. The conference included participation from CEOs of all States/UTs, along with one DEO and ERO from each state.
Political parties and their authorised representatives—including Booth Level Agents (BLAs), Polling Agents, Counting Agents, and Election Agents—play an essential role in the conduct of elections. Their participation in these meetings is central to resolving any outstanding matters and ensuring free and fair elections.
This grassroots-level engagement has been welcomed by political parties, with their active and enthusiastic participation in meetings across assembly constituencies, districts, and states/UTs. The Commission appeals to all the national/state political parties to avail this proactive grassroot level engagement with electoral authorities for resolving any pending issue in a time-bound manner.
