Education and health sectors clubbed together in Meghalaya’s budget speech
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the MDA government is investing about Rs 350 crore with assistance from the World Bank to improve the overall health infrastructure in the State.
As part of the project, all the 659 health centres will be upgraded within the next five years, Sangma said that for the year 2022-23, an amount of Rs 60 crore is allocating for the ‘Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project’. He also allocated Rs 1,617 crore for the entire Health sector which is an increase of 28 percent over the allocation in the current financial year.
Continuing with our focus on education, Sangma said that the process for constructing 39 ‘Eklavya Model Residential Schools’ has started while 208 primary and secondary school buildings are being built with a cost of Rs 109 crore and shall be completed by December 2022.

During 2022-23, he said that another 111 schools will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore and projects for having higher education institutes in every district are close to completion.
He also informed the Government has already operationalized nine Peoples’ colleges across the State while the second phase of the selection and operationalization of additional people’s colleges will be done during 2022-23.
