Education dept to soon announce MTET exams
The education department would soon announce the dates for conduting the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) examination.
“The notification for conducting the MTET examination will be out in the coming week,” Minister in-charge Education Lahkmen Rymbui told the Assembly on Wednesday.
Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh were among those expressing concern over the fate of many schools which at present are running without any teachers.
Mawsynram legislator Himalaya Shangpliang has also requested the government to allow teachers, who could not qualify in the MTET examination, to join back in schools locating in the border areas where students are taught in Garo language.
According to him, there are 10 such schools in Mawsynram, East Khas Hills, 80 in Ranikor, South West Khasi Hills and 20-30 in Rambrai-Jyrngam, West Khasi Hills.
Similar situation was also brought to the notice by Rongara Siju legislator Rakkam Sangma where over 80 schools in his area are also without teachers.
To this, the Minister however maintained that there will be no temporary appointment in such schools.
“(This is because) the process of appointing teachers and rationalization of teacher is going on and it will be completed within few weeks,” he said.
According to him, whatever is being done is in consonance with the law of the land and for the benefit of the students’ community in the state.
