Efforts on to nab culprits for vandalizing a mandir in WG Hills: AIGP
The state police on Tuesday said that efforts are on to arrest those involved in vandalizing a mandir in West Garo Hills district.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai said miscreants had vandalised the Marok Ancholic Mahamaya Mandir in Merenggapara village on August 19.
He said upon receiving the information the police team immediately visited the place of occurrence and subsequently a case was registered at Tura Police Station under relevant provisions of law.
“The investigation of the case is in progress and efforts are being put into arresting the perpetrators of crime,” Iangrai said.
The AIGP further informed that the police team in its endeavour to further ascertain the facts and circumstances of the case, convened a peace committee meeting at Merenggapara village, in which the local public of 7 nearby villages including Merenggapa village attended the meeting.
He said the residents of the villages assured that they will provide necessary assistance to the investigating team and also resolved to uphold peace and harmony in the area.
Meanwhile, the police department has appealed to all the citizens to refrain from circulating/sharing any misinformation on this matter and to also not fall victim to any rumors or false news that are being circulated.
