EJNC called for proper checking of people entering through Ratacherra Infiltration Check Point
The East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) Khliehriat Circle on Monday urged the District Administration East Jaintia Hills District to ensure proper checking of persons by the officials of Ratacherra Infiltration Check Point entering the State of Meghalaya.
In a letter to Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills District E Kharmalki, the EJNC Khliehriat alleged that there were several instances during the past few weeks where unidentified people numbering 40-50 seen moving around in late night in Khliehriat East Area.
They also said that these people were walking from jungle area and were carrying sufficient luggage in form of handbags arising suspicion and they are not the residents of Khliehriat. These people are suspected to be Bangladeshi or Assamese migrants who illegally enter East Jaintia Hill District during night time, they added..
The letter read that since there is no presence of police patrolling during night time these illegal immigrants are at liberty to move around and this is a matter of grave concern for the locals as it could further create a law and order situation in the area.
This influx will affect the demographic of such places and will also adversely affect the employment opportunities of local people, the EJNC apprehends that this will also bring danger to the residents of EJHD if these people from outsiders will continue to enter the district.
They also appealed to the District Administration to take up with Superintendent of police (Infiltration) Shillong Meghalaya for strengthening the Infiltration Check Point at Ratacherra.
