EKH admin close down two markets due to violation of COVID-19 protocols
The East Khasi Hills district administration has directed immediate closure of the market at Lad Smit and Smit market following violation of COVID-19 protocols.
In her order issued on Tuesday, deputy commissioner Isawanda Laloo said, “…for containment of any possible spread of COVID-19, it is necessary that the market at Lad Smit and Smit market shall remain closed, until further orders.”
She informed reports have been received from the Incident Commander-cum-Block
Development Officer, Mawryngkneng C&RD Block that the traders/vendors and public at Smit and Lad Smit market are not following the protocols.
Despite regulation on opening of shops and strict instructions that people should move out only for essential purposes, it was noticed that many are not complying to the protocols of the health department,
Laloo said the market was seen to be crowded, and there are still some persons who are not wearing masks or observing physical distancing with due diligence adding this laxity is a cause of concern in view of the ongoing fast spread of COVID-19.
The DC informed that the Block Development Officer, Mawryngkneng C&RD Block will convene a meeting with the Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Sordars, CCMTs and market committee in this regard prior to any reopening, to ensure that protocols are strictly followed by all concerned.
