EKH admin to implement containment measures from June 21

East Khasi Hills district administration has decided to put in place strict containment measures in the district from June 21 till further orders in order to safeguard the citizens from the uncontrollable surge of COVID-19 cases.

In her order, the district magistrate Isawanda Laloo said the number of COVID-19 cases in the district is still very high and it is also observed that the positivity rate is above 10 percent.  

She informed that the night curfew will be promulgated in the district from 7pm to 5am daily.

The order said political, public, social and religious gatherings including conferences, meetings & training, weddings and sporting activities are not permitted.

Inter and Intra-Movement of person to / from Shillong Urban Agglomeration is not permitted without valid passes. Vehicles plying without passes will be liable for strict penalties.

Opening of essential shops and non essential shops will be regulated. All shops are required to indicate vaccination status of their staff in the shop premises.

In-situ construction activities are permitted in Shillong Urban Agglomeration, with due permission from this office. All Construction activities are permitted in rural areas, with due permission from the Sub Divisional Officers (C) and Block Development Officers concerned. However, inter-village movement of labourers is to be restricted.

For any other construction activities requiring movement of labourers, within the district, the same may be applied to this office and permission will be granted on a case to case basis.

Home delivery services, e-commerce activities and courier services are permitted and will be regulated.

Only Central Government offices as notified by Home (Political) Department vide Notification No.POL.117/2020/Pt.II/136 dated 28.05.2021 and State Government offices as notified by Personnel & A.R (A) Department vide Notification No.PER.62/2020/57, dated 28.05.2021 are permitted to open, with limited staff.

All Banks and Post offices are permitted to open with limited staff. They shall close by 2:00PM for public transactions.

Funeral gatherings should be restricted to 10 persons only, with prior permission from this office.

Agricultural activities and MGNREGA activities are permitted in rural areas.

International trade will be regulated by the Sub Divisional Officers (C) concerned in consultation with the undersigned.

On public transport, the order said that the Sub Divisional Officers (C), Sohra / Pynursla may permit and regulate plying of public transport for movement at 30% strength within the Civil Sub Division only.

For Shillong Urban Agglomeration and other C&RD Blocks, regulated arrangements will be made by the District Transport Officer, East Khasi Hills for movement upto 20% strength, for which a separate order will be issued in due course. The Block Development Officer concerned may continue to issue passes for essential works, medical requirements, etc.
