EKH police issues advisory against scammers
The state police on Thursday issued an advisory requesting people not to fall for scammers posing as sellers on OLX.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtynger said a lot of people have been duped by scammers posing as sellers on OLX who have attached genuine-looking documents like ID Proof belonging to the Paramilitary Forces, receipts from Courier Companies, etc., in order to make the customers fall in their trap.
He said the scammers’ contact numbers go offline once the amount has been transferred by gullible customers.
“Therefore, we advised the general public not to fall for such scammers.If anyone has to deal in OLX, it is advised that before any money is to be transferred, the buyers should meet the sellers in person. Also, it is advised not to make inter-state transactions,” the SP said.
In case of any such scamming, the general public is requested to approach the nearest Police Station, Police Beat House,Police Out-Post or Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC), CID, Shillong.
