EKH police to go all out against perpetrators of arson attacks on police stations: Nongtnger

The state police have decided to go all out against perpetrators of arson attacks on police stations.

The state has witnessed frequent attacks on police stations this year and the latest being a few days ago when miscreants committed an arson attack on the Rynjah police station.

Mawlai police station, Sadar police station and Laitumkhrah police station were also made soft targets by assonists earlier during the month of April-May.

When asked, East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said that regarding the arson attack on Rynjah police station, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress even as he assured, “definitely, we will get the culprits”.

He informed that police have taken stringent action against such arson attacks on police stations.

“In the Laitumkhrah PS case, the culprits are still in jail for the past 4-5 months,” the SP said while sending a strong message, “whoever commits a crime, police will take action. We may not get you today and we may not get you tomorrow but everyday we will be running after you.”

“As police, we have to do our job. Whoever commits crimes, we will go after them,” he added.

Nongtnger also stated that the department is considering installation of CCTVs in all police stations as top priority.

“CCTV is our priority. Hopefully we can repair and install new ones,” he said.

The SP said, “It is upto the people on how they look at us but we are doing our job be it traffic, be it law and order or be it tackling crimes. We are always the first and last respondent. (But sometimes) people don’t appreciate it and always try to find fault. Perhaps because of that they throw petrol bombs or stones otherwise police are sacrificing so much. When people are enjoying (during festivals and other celebrations) policemen are on the road maintaining traffic and ensuring everyone is safe. We really don’t get time to enjoy and if people feel we are not doing enough that depends on them otherwise we are doing everything for the safety and security of people here in Shillong.”
