Election department organizing electoral Outreach programme to bridge electoral gap
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer organised an Electoral Outreach Programme- Mission UNITE 2.0 (U & I Towards Enrolment) #RolltoPoll Urban Apathy Electoral Outreach Programme at the Dorbar Hall Umpling on Wednesday.
Notably, Umpling falls under Mawryngkneng Assembly Constituency, which is of the rural constituencies in the State.
Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said that the main objective of the electoral outreach programme is to achieve 100 percent enrolment and voters’ turnout and through the different analysis.
He further said that the department has selected a list of community where the electoral gap is above 25% where they will hold the outreach programme.
He also stressed on the importance of the electoral process and the participation of every eligible citizen in strengthening the democracy in the country.
Awareness on enrolment of young voters who are eligible for voting, educating the citizens about the electoral process and the importance of their rights to franchise under the democratic process was also highlighted during the programme.
