EMRI workers to go on strike
SHILLONG: Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU) has decided to issue a strike notice to the management as a mark of protest against its failure to response to their various demands.
“(We) have resolved to give a notice to strike as mandated by the law and we the EMRI workers would be going on strike anytime beginning two weeks after the submission of the notice to strike,” Publicity secretary of the Union Joseph Pyngrope said in a statement issued here.
He said during the period of strike all the 108 ambulance vehicles of the entire state will be handed over to the headquarters of GVK EMRI, Shillong.
Earlier, the Union had staged series of protests to demand the management to address the various issues pointed out in the charter of demands submitted last year.
Pyngrope said despite these peaceful forms of agitations being carried out in order to make their voices heard, the management instead of calling for discussions, resorted to threatening individuals and belittling their legitimate demands.
Some of the demands includes upgrading of the ambulances, better working hours in order to ensure safety for patients and to provide quality services, better wages and improved staffing among others.
