Eugeneson files nomination for Mawphlang bypolls
United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Eugeneson Lyngdoh on Wednesday expressed confidence that the people of Mawphlang will be by his side in the upcoming bye election slated for October 30.
After filing his nomination, Lyngdoh told reporters that his decision to contest from a UDP ticket was the wish of the people who had come to his house on September 27.
“I have to listen to the voice of the people and I firmly believe that they will be with me,” he added.
Lyngdoh was accompanied by Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, party workers and family members during the filing of nomination at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Shillong.
The bye-election is necessitated after the death of Lyngdoh’s father Syntar Klas Sunn, who was sitting MLA of the constituency, on September 10.
The Meghalaya football icon said he has decided to hang up his boots by joining the fray in order to fulfill his father’s unfinished tasks.
Lyngdoh is pitched against two seasoned politicians – Kennedy Khyriem of the Congress and Lamphrang Blah of the National People’s Party.
