Eugeneson Lyngdoh to contest on UDP ticket for Mawphlang bypoll
Meghalaya Football icon Eugeneson Lyngdoh on Thursday announced his decision to contest the upcoming bye-election to the Mawphlang constituency slated on October 30.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Lyngdoh’s residence at Mawngap.
The seat fell vacant after the demise of Lyngdoh’s father SK Sunn, who succumbed to COVID-19 infection on September 10.
The meeting was attended by leaders and strong supporters of Sunn. On their request, Lyngdoh also agreed to join and contest on a United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket.
Speaking at the meeting, Lyngdoh expressed his keen interest to follow up and fulfill all the pending works his father had left behind.
“I had gone through all the files and found that there are many projects which are ongoing and which my father proposed to take up. Therefore, I urge the people of Mawphlang to give support to me so that I am able to fulfill all the pending works of the constituency. Please lend me your hand, let us work together because together we can win (the election),” he said.
Earlier, Lyngdoh and his family had sought time to take a call after the people of Mawphlang wanted him to contest the bye election.
“We as a family have discussed and taken a collective decision to serve the people of Mawphlang,” he said.
He also said that his father’s sudden demise was a great loss not to the family but to the constituency in particular and the state as a whole. Lyngdoh also recalled that his father’s action would speak louder than words.
He concluded his speech by quoting his father “If I grow, others will also grow.”
