Ex GNLA chief & Congress leader arrested with fake Indian Currencies
In a joint operation of the Special Squad and an EGPD team from Basistha PS of Assam Police, a major Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) scam was busted after they intercepted a Bolero vehicle bearing ML07B7998.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of a purported bundle of FICN.
The receiver of the pack – one Champion R Sangma (46), resident of Songsak in Meghalaya – said that the pack is worth ₹15,00,000/- However, the pack had only ₹10,000/- in original currency notes & the rest was white paper. The receiver said that he paid ₹3,50,000/- to one Poresh Das & one Bijay Das at Kamrup Petrol Pump for ₹15,00,000/- worth of FICN.
Two others – Gohanch Sangma (36) from Songsak and Cherian Momin (28) from Tura in Meghalaya – were also arrested in this matter.
