Ex-Service men/widows exempted from payment of House Tax in Meghalaya: Chief Minister
“We have decided to exempt House tax to Ex service men/widows residing in Meghalaya including the Municipal areas,” said Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday.
Sangma was addressing the Meghalaya State Ex-Servicemen Rally held at Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong. He was accompanied by GAD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
The Chief Minister informed that sufficient space will be provided for the ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) Polyclinic in Tura. He also said that the Government also sanctioned Rs. 4 Crores for the construction of the Sainik Welfare Guest House, the work for which will start at the earliest.

Sangma said that Ex gratia payment of Rs 15 (Fifteen) Lakh has been sanctioned by the Meghalaya Government to the next of kin of (L) Havildar Hampiar R Marak of the 59 Medium Regiment, a resident of Mendipathar, North Garo Hills District of Meghalaya who died while on duty in operational area in Naugam Sector along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also said that ex-gratia to the next of kin of martyrs and disabled soldiers will be enhanced from the existing amount of Rs 15 (Fifteen) lakh to a revised amount of Rs 20 (Twenty ) Lakh.
Regarding provision of Government Job for one member of the family of (l) David Manlun, Kirti Chakra who as martyred on 6th June 2017 during counter insurgency operation in Nagaland, Sangma said the Government has examined the matter and it was decided that one government job will be provided in the office of the Director, Sainik Welfare Board.
He informed that the State Govt has enhanced the Cash Award for Param Vir Chakra awardee from the existing Rs 1 (One) lakh to Rs 5 (Five) lakh.
Sangma informed they enhanced the Annuity to Award winner (PVC) from Rs 1000/ per month to Rs 10000/-.
During the occasion the Chief Minister also presented the Ex-gratia and Gallantry Award Winners Cheques and Gifts to Selected Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris.
Air Marshal AP Singh, AVSM, SASO Eastern Air Command, Lt. Gen. K.C Panchanathan, AVSM, GOC 101 Area, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo, were among the dignitaries present.
