Extend validity of MTET certificate to 7yrs: qualified candidates to Govt
The Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) qualified candidates of 2019 batch have demanded the state government to extend the validity period of the MTET certificate to seven years.
“…(we) request for extension the validity period of MTET 2019 certificate from a period of 2 years to 7 years,” the qualified candidates said in a memorandum submitted to the Director of Educational Research and Training (DERT) on Tuesday.
The education department in its notification dated October 8, 2018 had stated that “the validity of MTET certificate shall be 2 years unless extended by the state government and not beyond 7 years or till the next MTET is conducted whichever is earlier”.
The memorandum said that the MTET 2019 qualified candidates who appeared D.El.Ed from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) were not allowed to sit for the personal interview conducted recently by the Education Department for filling up the vacant post in Govt Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools across the State due to errors of marks in D.El.Ed marksheets and falling to produce the original D.El.Ed completion certificate though they got the calling letter to appear for the interview.
Refering to the announcement made by the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui about conducting the next MTET exams very soon, the qualified candidates however said, “We request and suggest the state government through you (to) take a call to extend the validity period of the MTET 2019 certificate from a period of 2 years to 7 years.”
They further requested the state government to allow candidates who have qualified for the MTET 2019 examination to appear again in the next MTET exams for improving his/her score subject the MTET 2019 certificate will still stand valid if he/she failed to improve his/her score.
The candidates also pointed out that Para 11 of the NCTE guidelines for conducting Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issued to all state government/UTs clearly stated, “The appropriate government should conduct a TET at least once every year. The Validity Period of TET qualifying certificate for appointment will be decided by the appropriate Government subject to a maximum of seven years for all categories. But there will be no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a TET Certificate. A person who has qualified TET may also appear again for improving his/her score”.
