Extensive Financial Literacy camps planned across Meghalaya
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been hosting Financial Literacy Week (FLW) annually since 2016 to promote financial education. FLW 2024, themed “Make the Right Start: Become Financially Smart,” is being observed from February 26 to March 01, 2024, focusing on “Saving and Power of Compounding,” “Banking Essentials for Students,” and “Digital and Cyber Hygiene.”
FLW 2024 commenced with an inauguration by Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and Olden Nongpluh, GM (O-i-C), RBI Shillong. The event, held on February 26 at Taj Vivanta, Shillong, initiated a week-long celebration dedicated to enhancing financial awareness. Attendees included officials from NABARD, MRB, SBI, MCAB, and government representatives.
Nongpluh emphasized the importance of financial planning, personal budgeting, and digital hygiene to foster sound financial behavior. DP Wahlang commended RBI’s initiative in promoting financial literacy in Meghalaya and urged bankers to extend banking services to remote areas.
FLW activities included a painting competition and a skit competition for college students, with winners felicitated during the event. RBI Shillong also presented initiatives to promote financial awareness. RBI Shillong has plans to conduct Financial Literacy Camps across all 12 districts of Meghalaya during the week, alongside disseminating information through various channels such as TV ads, radio jingles, posters, etc.
