Female voters outstrip men in Guwahati Lok Sabha seat, voting on third phase
The number of female voters in the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency will become a pivotal electorate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election compared to other constituencies of the state.
Of the 20,19,444 total electorate in 10 assembly segments under the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, 10,26,118 are female and 9,93,268 are male voters. The number of transgender voters is 58.
The gender ratio in the constituency will be 1,033 against 955 in the state and the national average of 948.
The number of voters within the age group of 18 to 19 is 9708 as of February 8.
In 2019, Guwahati had 21,81,319 voters, including 11,03,376 male voters, 10,77,865 female voters, and 78 third-gender voters. In 2014, there were 19,22,270 voters.
“The poll will be held in the Guwahati constituency in the third phase on May 7. The notification will be issued on April 12 and candidates can file their nomination till April 19. No nomination will be accepted on April 13, 14 and 15 due to the Rongali Bihu holiday,” Kamrup Metro district commissioner Sumit Sattawan said addressing a press conference here on Sunday.
“While the last date of filing nomination will be April 19, the scrutiny will be on April 19 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination will be on April 22,” Sattawan said.
Of 10 assembly segments, 13-Goalpara West and 15 Dudhnoi will be in Goalpara district, 27 Chamaria, 28 Boko Chaygaon and 29 Palashbari in Kamrup (rural) district and 33 Dispur, 34 Dimoria, 35 New Guwahati, 36 Guwahati Central and 37 Jalukbari are in Kamrup Metro district,” Sattawan said.
“There will be one strong room at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here apart from five other locations,” Sattawan said.
“25 flying Squad and 15 Video Surveillance Teams apart from Static Surveillance Teams started functioning in the Kamrup Metro district to curb violations of the Model code of conduct for the upcoming elections,” Sattawan also said.
“A district-level Cash Release Committee to be headed by Zila Parishad CEO will be formed shortly to oversee seizures and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP) for evaluating and releasing cash unrelated to any political entity,” he said.
“Political parties have been asked to remove all banners and billboards from the government property within 24 hours, from public property and private property (without permission) within 72 hours,” the district commissioner said.
Of 2181 total polling booths in the constituency, 1023 are within the boundary of Kamrup Metro district. There will be three auxiliary polling stations, 15 model polling stations and 102 all-women polling stations.
