First half of 36 hours lockdown against garbage successful and total in Jowai Town

Pushed to the wall with no solution seemingly in the near future, the various Dorbar Shnong of Jowai Town went ahead with the 36 hours long lockdown from 6am of Tuesday morning to register their anger against the Meghalaya Govt failure to resolve the issue of garbage was total and successful.
The lockdown was initially sponsored by the Dorbar Shnong Tympang Iawmusiang at the end of their three days deadline to the Meghalaya Government.
The Dorbar Shnong took the extreme step of calling the lockdown as the residents were unwillingly subjected to the foul odour emanating from the unattended garbage in Iawmusiang opposite Iawshor and in Thomas Jones Road and in all markets in Jowai Town.

Later, the Dorbar Shnong Ladthadlaboh joined the bandwagon of the 36 hours lockdown as the garbage, which was collected from Iawthymmei were unloaded again. Strengthening the call of lockdown, the Dorbar Shnong of Chutwakhu, Salaroh, Mookyrdup and New Hills vouched their support.
Enforcing the lockdown in letter and spirit, the members of the Women Wing and Youth Wing of the Dorbar Shnong Tympang Iawmusiang and Dorbar Shnong Ladthadlaboh stationed themselves at Lad College, Ladthadlaboh, Police Point, Iawmusiang, Lad Wah Nangbah, Iawmusiang and Riatsiatsim where they pushed back any vehicles without urgent reasons.

As announced, vehicles falling the category of emergency services such as Ambulances, health personnel, Milk Van, Newspapers and media persons, which were already exempted were allow to move freely.
Most of the schools and colleges in Jowai Town remained closed from the morning hour of Tuesday while other schools granted half day holidays. The Indian Council of School Education (ICSE) Examination went as usual in Jowai Public School, Mooralong while Govt offices remained open with no office goers.
Prominent market places namely Iawshyiap, Iawshor, Iaw Sein Raij and Iawthymmei remained closed. There were no tourist vehicles plying to Shillong, Lad Rymbai, Amlarem and other main villages of West Jaintia Hills District.
