‘Fitness Science,’ Guwahati’s 1st advanced rehab for sportspersons opened
For the first time in Northeast India, a dedicated rehabilitation centre for injured sportspersons and a gym, named “Fitness Science,” was opened in Guwahati. This state-of-the-art facility features advanced physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, endurance training, and a gym, all aimed at promoting health and wellness in the region.
The centre was formally inaugurated on Saturday by BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) joint secretary Devajit Lon Saikia, who emphasized the longstanding need for such a facility in the region. “This centre will fulfil the needs of injured sportspersons in Guwahati and the entire Northeast. Previously, we had to send injured athletes outside the state for treatment, as there was no similar facility here,” Saikia said.
Saikia also commended Dr. Lalit Shah, Rajesh Jain, and Bobby Deorah for their efforts in establishing the centre, which will serve not only athletes but also the general public.
Located on B. Baruah Road in Ulubari, Fitness Science will help injured athletes access essential rehabilitation services locally, saving both time and the high costs of travelling to cities like Bangalore and Mumbai for treatment.
The centre has also hotel facilities for keeping the sportspersons coming from outside the city for treatment.
Guwahati has become a hub for sports in the Northeast, producing talented athletes across multiple disciplines. An advanced physiotherapy centre would offer local athletes access to specialized care, including injury prevention, treatment, and recovery, all crucial for maintaining their competitive edge.
