Five more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, toll at 179
Five more persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 179 on Sunday.
Surendra Kumar Kanher (48) of Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills district was brought dead at MCH hospital, Jowai and Wannalin Marwein (41) of Nongrah Shillong passed away at Bethany Hospital on Saturday while Payal Agarwal (29) of Nongrim Hills, Shillong also died at the same hospital on Sunday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
The other two deceased have been identified as Ebrin Lyngdoh (63) of Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills who passed away at Supercare hospital and Nidhu Ranjan Paul (62) of Rilbong Shillong died at Woodland hospital on Sunday, he said.
The state has also recorded yet another highest single-day spike of 321 people tested positive, taking the total number of active cases to 1,821, while 154 have recovered from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries to 15,429.
Dr War said the new cases include 212 in East Khasi Hills district, 41 West Garo Hills district, 20 West Jaintia Hills district, 15 Ri Bhoi district, 11 East Jaintia Hills district, 4 North Garo Hills district, 3 South West Khasi Hills district, 2 South West Garo Hills district, 1 East Garo Hills district and 1 South Garo Hills district.
He informed that of 154 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 114 from East Khasi Hills, 24 Ri Bhoi, 5 East Jaintia Hills, 4 South West Khasi Hills, 4 West Jaintia Hills, 2 West Khasi Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 17,429 COVID-19 cases out of which 1,821 are active cases, 15,429 recovered and 179 deaths.
With 1,189 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 177 cases, 124 West Garo Hills, 100 in West Jaintia Hills, 89 East Jaintia Hills, 53 West Khasi Hills, 21 South West Khasi Hills, 30 East Garo Hills, 16 South Garo Hills, 8 South West Garo Hills and 14 in North Garo Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,67,645 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,50,216 were tested negative for the virus even as 371 persons are in institutional quarantine and 1,450 under home quarantine.
There are 1,14,985 entrants from outside the state.
25,280 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 18,444 had received the second dose, while 47,527 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 27,250 got the second dose as on Sunday.
Moreover, 1,67,670 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 17,508 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
