FKJGP demands arrest of American-aid worker
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has demanded the immediate arrest of the American aid worker for physical assault on health care personnel at the Shillong Civil hospital recently.
“We demand that Theodore Moallem be arrested and punished as per the Epidemic Act. His action is highly condemnable,” FKJGP East Khasi Hills Unit president Elton Cliff Warjri said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He said the FKJGP also thanked all the frontline workers who are working tirelessly to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
On June 6, Moallem who works for an NGO Blind Lead Trust here was taken to hospital as he complained of cardiac problem but was non-cooperative with the hospital staff.
The American citizen had allegedly coughed and spat at the staff on duty on purpose and fractured the right 5th proximal phalynx of General Surgeon Dr. Issac Syiem.
Although Moallem was released from the hospital following his COVID 19 test which came out negative and is in home quarantine.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered after FIR was filed by the Joint Director (Surgeon Superintendent) Dr S.S. Nongbri of Shillong Civil hospital.
