FKJGP demands govt to implement MRSSA, 2016
SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has threatened to take stern decision if the state government is still adamant to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 including the setting up of the entry-exit points to check influx and illegal immigration into the state.
The demand also came in view of the delay by the Centre to decide on the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
“We express our strong concern over the delay of the Centre to invite the state government delegation for deciding the fate of the resolution on ILP passed by the state Assembly,” FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
In view of this, the FKJGP felt the need to reiterate the immediate implementation of the MRSSA, 2016 by speeding up the setting up of the entry-exit points across the state, he said.
He said the government should also direct the district task forces to prevent illegal entry of outsiders into the state.
If there is any further delay on this matter, Rani said, “We will discuss along with other NGOs responsible in giving shape to the principal act of the MRSSA, 2016 to take stern decision against the state government’s adamant attitude towards our demand.”
Referring to swift measures taken by the state of Manipur by setting up temporary check points to implement ILP, he said the Meghalaya government now cannot come up with excuses except to implement the MRSSA in letter and spirit.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP also condemned the action taken by the police if Nongmynsong outpost by summoning it’s assistant general secretary Elton Cliff Warjri just because he was part of a public meeting to make people aware on the need for ILP in the State and to oppose the Citizenship amendment act.
It also warned the state government not to involve in provocation through such action.
