FKJGP demands KHADC to stop rampant issuing of trading licenses
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Sohra Circle has demanded the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to stop rampant issuing of trading licenses to non-indigenous traders.
“We have strongly urge the district council to stop issuing of trading license to non-tribal traders including limestone exporters in areas of Majai and Beltoli under Hima Sohra,” FKJGP-SC general secretary Carlous Kharmih told reporters after a meeting with the KHADC chief Titosstar Chyne on Monday.
He said the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation Act, 1959 had clearly stated that trading licenses cannot be issued on trades carried out by local indigenous traders.
Kharmih informed that the delegation has also requested the district council to take action against benami transactions in the area.
“The CEM has assured the delegation to look into the matter. He also told us that he would issue directions to all traditional heads not to issue rampant NOCs to non-tribal traders,” he said.
The general secretary also said that the CEM has also assured to take up the demand of the federation for renaming those villages with non-tribal names.
