FKJGP demands regional parties to withdraw support to NPP-led MDA
SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Tuesday demanded the regional political parties to withdraw support to the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha.
“We demand all the regional political parties including the UDP, HSPDP, PDF and KHNAM to immediately withdraw their support to the MDA government led by the NPP,” FKJGP vice president Eldie Newton Lyngdoh told reporters after an emergent meeting held here.
This came after NPP MP from Tura Agatha K Sangma spoke in support of the CAB in the parliament, which passed the CAB on Monday. Her effigy was also burnt by protesters in Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills region.
Terming the sudden U-turn as an act of betrayal, Lyngdoh said this was despite the fact that the state government along with political parties and civil society organizations had submitted the resolution in opposition of the CAB during the meeting called by the home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
“This shows that the resolution was a big lie to fool all of us,” he said.
