FKJGP for creation of C&RD block in Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency
SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has demanded creation of a community and rural development block and setting up of a directorate of mineral resouces (DMR) office in West Khasi Hills District.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma recently, the FKJGP West Khasi Hills has also urged the state government to upgrade two border outposts into police outposts besides improving the road connectivity in the region.
President of the FKJGP-WKH Palwanbor Syiem said that Rambrai-Jyrngam is the only constituency which is without a block adding the resident of this area are deprived of better administrative services, health, and development and remains to be one of the most backward areas of the district.
“It is time to bring people closer to a better administration and development. It is also time to raise their standard of living in all sphere of life but nothing can be done in this effort than giving them a block of their own. We humbly request you to kindly consider creation of Rambrai C&RD block,” he said.
Requesting the government to set up the DMR office in the district, Syiem said that at present the DMR branch had been set up with staff but it is more than 10 years now, the staff are working and being paid without an office.
Stating that minerals produce from the district like coal and limestone are exported outside the state including Bangladesh, he however alleged that royalty collection from these resources has not been properly streamlined as leakage of revenue is so much rampant from consignment to Bangladesh particularly.
According to him, it is important for the government to look into the matter in order to monitor mining activities and weigh bridge which will hugely benefit the state.
The FKGJP has also demanded the state government to give full protection to the people residing along the Assam-Meghalaya border and Indo-Bangla border by upgrading the two border outposts to police outposts at Kyrshai and Langpih.
Expressing concern over the delay in making the blood bank functional, Syiem said the construction of the building for the blook bank at Nongstoin has been completed but for reason best known to the government, the same is yet to be opened.
Similarly, the president also pointed out that the District Office of Agriculture Research and Laboratory even after a lapsed of more than 25 years since its creation in 1988, this institute is also yet to be made functional despite the district has so much potential in farming activities.
“The building of the office had already been completed for more than 7 – 8 years now yet it stands empty and dead. It is sincerely requested that research Laboratory be made operative and functional in interest of improving the agriculture and farming activities in the district,” he said.
He further informed that the organization is also demanding the government to introduce the inter-state border scholarship to support and encourage students from the border areas besides to reduce the dropout rate among the youth
Meanwhile, the FKJGP has also sought the intervention of the CM for the upgradation of important roads which include Nongstoiñ–Maweit–Nonghyllam Nongjri, Mairang – Rani Godown, Mawthengkut – Athiabari.
