FKJGP opposes allocation of govt land for relocation of Anjalee petrol pump
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) on Thursday expressed strong opposition against the state government’s move to allocate a plot of land belonging to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department for relocation of the Anjalee Petrol Pump to pave way for the widening of the road from Umshyrpi as part of the Shillong-Dawki road project.
A delegation of the FKJGP Upper Shillong Circle also met and submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Minister in-charge Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department AL Hek for his necessary intervention on the matter.
Speaking to reporters, President of FKJGP Upper Shillong Circle Kitboklang Nongphlang alleged that the State government is in the process of allocating a plot of land at the farm of the department at Upper Shillong for the private petrol pump in lieu of the land at Anjalee Point, which the government is acquiring for road widening.
“Since the land belonging to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department at Upper Shillong is meant specifically for development of dairy and other farming activities for the long term benefits of the State, allotment of land for establishment of a private petrol pump will defeat the very purpose for which the land was meant to be utilized by the concerned department,” Nongphlang said.
“Hence, in view of the above, we hereby express our strong objection to the move to allot land to the said petrol pump at the farm of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department at Upper Shillong,” he said while maintaining that the FKJGP has no objection if the petrol pump is shifted to any other location but it should not be within any government property.
He said the federation has also urged the minister to intervene and stop any move to shift the petrol pump to the land of the department at Upper Shillong.
“Any attempt by the State government to go ahead with such a plan would be strongly resisted by us and by the people of Upper Shillong as a whole,” Nongphlang further warned.
