FKJGP seek Dhar’s intervention into non-completion of housing projects at Nongmensong
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Thursday urged the deputy chief minister in-charge urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar to intervene into the delay in the completion of the government housing projects at Nongmensong Lumphira here.
After submitting a memorandum to Dhar, general secretary of the FKJGP Nongmensong Circle Alan Kharkongor said that the prolonged non-completion of government housing projects located at Nongmensong Lumphira intended for the poor have led to the place becoming a hub for various illegal activities, including drug trafficking, theft, attempted murder, and other serious crimes.
He said that the presence of these unlawful activities is severely impacting the daily lives of residents in the surrounding areas, creating an environment of fear and insecurity. What was meant to be a beneficial project for the vulnerable has instead led to a dangerous situation for the entire community.
“We, therefore, urge the urban development department to take swift and decisive action to either compete the housing projects as soon as possible or take necessary steps to secure the premises to prevent further illegal activity. This will not only restore law and order to the affected areas but also ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the housing support they were promised. I trust that you will take immediate steps to address this serious issue and work towards the completion of these housing projects,” Kharkongor stated in the memorandum.
