FKJGP urges Govt to set up Feeds Mill in prime location
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) have suggested the state government identify a prime location for the setting up the Feeds Mill in the state.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, FKJGP president Dundee C Khongsit said that the Government of India has recently sanctioned setting up of the Feeds Mill in Meghalaya, which will cater to the North Eastern region.
“Therefore, we have requested the state government to set up this Feeds Mill in a prime location which would garner a lot of potential especially for farming groups in the Ri Bhoi, Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills districts,” he told reporters.
According to him, the setting up of the Feeds Mill in a prime location will really uplift the livestock farming in Meghalaya.
Moreover, he said there is a need to encourage piggery and poultry farming since almost 80% of the requirements are supplied and brought from outside the state such as Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and even from the Southern states.
The reason for these states to have abundant production of various livestock farming is due to the existence of the Feeds Mills and cheap availability of feed within their own states, he said.
When asked, Khongsit said that the Deputy Chief Minister has assured to look into the suggestion of the federation.
