FKS demands for two-week lockdown in Meghalaya
The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) has suggested the state government the need to consider imposing a total lockdown for two weeks in the entire state, following a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.
In a letter to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday, FKS spokesman John F Kharshiing said, “A two weeks lockdown will help to bring down the graphic curve of positive cases which is indicatively on the rise.”
“A two weeks lockdown may sound harsh, but again not considering aggressive and quick early decisions may lead to loss of more precious lives,” he said while reminding the government that ‘desperate times call for desperate measures’.
The state has a total of 562 COVID-19 active cases as on Sunday even as the government has decided to impose a three-day total lockdown in Shillong agglomeration till Wednesday midnight.
Kharshiing said the FKS and a number of traditional chiefs have expressed their serious concerns to this alarming situation in the state.
“The challenges faced by the state government in enforcing compliance due to the difficult behavioral challenges faced by the general public provides no other option other than the alternative to strongly urge the government of Meghalaya to consider a two weeks complete lockdown in the entire state so as to effectively contain, isolate and defeat the speed at which the coronavirus is spreading in the state,” he said
