FKS urges citizens, village dorbars to consider quarantine of all returnees

The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) on Tuesday extend its full support to the call made by the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) and urged all citizens and villages to cooperate and conside quarantine options for all returnees to the state.

FKS adviser & spokesperson John F Kharshiing in a statement here said that a similar request was also made by the FKS to the state government on May 1, to draw up a roadmap for quarantining all returnees to Meghalaya.

He said the FKS strongly encourages the citizens especially the families of the returnees to discuss with the village Dorbar Shnong to utilize the schools, colleges, community halls, including churches and church assets, as quarantine locations to quarantine returnees in their respective villages.

“This inconvenience is a small price to pay for the safety of the family members and the community and the state.It would have been much helpful if the State Government had put in place and considered the roadmap for quarantine to the last mile which is in the neighbourhood the community and villages,” Kharshiing said.

“There is still time for such efforts if citizens come forward and cooperate and discuss with the Dorbar Shnong to make such arrangements for their own family benefit by requesting all returnees to quarantine themselves for a short period in specified places within the village so as to effectively combat the disease known as the coronavirus or covid19. We urge all the citizens of Meghalaya to consider these suggestions urgently as part of its preparation to welcome the thirteen thousand odd returnees coming from all over India to Meghalaya,” he added.

Meanwhile, the FKS also urge all the traditional heads – Syiem, Lyngdoh, Sirdar, Dolloi, Syiem Raid, Lyngdoh Raid, Sordar Raid, Rangbah Shnong, Sordar Shnong, Myntri Shnong, and Council of Nokma –  to take steps to create awareness on the importance and benefit from facilitating a quarantine location in the villages.
