Flood situation further worsens; one more dies in Udalguri, 4.09 lakh affected
The flood situation in Assam further worsened with the death of one more person in the Udalguri district on Thursday taking the toll in the first wave of floods to 27, an official bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) here said.
One death case has been reported from Udalguri district. The victim has been identified as Kasturima Sarania (24) of Sub Mahahia village under Khairabari revenue circle.
Her body was recovered by SDRF personnel from Kalapani River on Thursday.
Another person identified as Mithun Seal (38), who has been missing since Wednesday, is to be traced out. He drowned in the Kalapani River when he went fishing at Jhar Gaon on Wednesday. A rescue operation is on to trace the missing person.
4,09,356 people from 1,311 villages under 67 revenue circles of 22 districts are affected by the deluge.
The affected districts are- Tamulpur, Barpeta, Karimganj, Udalguri, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, Kamrup (M), Hojai, South Salmara, Cachar, Nalbari, Darrang, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Hailakandi, Bajali and West Karbi Anglong.
The Kopili is flowing above the danvel mark at Kampur in Nagaon district, Katakhal at Matizuri, Barak at Badarpur Ghat and Kushiyara is flowing above the danger level mark at Karimganj.
Karimganj is the worst affected district with 2,54,622 population being affected from 279 villages under Patherkandi, Nilambazar, Badarpur, RK Nagar and Karimganj revenue circles.
In Darrang district, 53,380 people from 82 villages under Patharighat, Dalgaon, Sipajhar, Pub-Mangaldai and Mangaldoi revenue circles.
Four districts- Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Kamrup (M) and Nalbari have been affected by urban flooding.
A total of 6424.83 hectares of cropland apart from roads, bridges, power lines and other infrastructure were damaged by the floods.
105 relief camps and 78 relief distribution centres were opened for the affected people.
14,215 affected people have been sheltered in the relief camps, 1,08,263 non-camp inmates have been provided food and other relief materials in the relief distribution centres.
2010.35 quintals of rice, 354.59 quintals of dal, 134.36 of salt and 10750.2 litres of mustard oil were distributed among the affected people.
3,54,393 domestic animals were also affected by the deluge.
