Floods & landslides struck 17 villages in Garo Hills region
Altogether 17 villages located in three districts were affected while 2,364 people were adversely hit due to incessant rainfalls which severely impacted three districts of West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, and South Garo Hills.
One house was damaged while In South Garo Hills, a PHC in Silkigre has been submerged in water, and road access is blocked. Villagers assisted stranded staff and residents.
Meanwhile, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Tura has been activated and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Guwahati has been requisitioned for assistance.
SDRF teams from Shillong have been sent to Tura as a precautionary measure while local authorities, including Civil Defence, Police, Fire & Emergency Services, and the Municipal Board, have been mobilized.
Landslides in Tura have been brought under control, and the rainfall has subsided.
An SDRF team en route to Dalu is currently stuck due to a landslide; efforts are underway to clear the road.
The SDRF team from Shillong remains on standby in Tura, with additional teams on alert at the Shillong headquarters, prepared for any further developments.
