Food poisoning | 2 died, 16 others ‘critical’ after consuming wild mushrooms in Indo Bangladesh Border
At least two persons were killed and three of the sixteen others turned critical after allegedly consuming poisonous wild mushroom at a village along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Jaintia Hills District.
The incident took place at Lamin village under Amlarem civil sub-division on Sunday.
Confirming this, village headman Golden Gashnga said one 40-year-old Morison Dhar and 26-year-old Katdilia Khonglah died after they fell seriously ill upon eating the mushrooms.
He said Morison came home with mushrooms after returning from a nearby forest on Thursday.
His neighbour, Katdilia along with other villagers had also collect the same mushroom.
“The three families cooked and consumed the mushrooms. It was after this that Morison and Katdilia have fallen critically ill. Morison was taken to Nongtalang CHC and his family later decided to shift him to another hospital but on reaching Skhentalang, he succumbed to the illness and passed away at 5.30 pm. Katdilia also died at Ialong Civil Hospital at 8.30 pm,” the headman said.
Sources however informed that members of three families have been affected in the incident.
A total of 16 people including family members of the two victims have been admitted in the hospitals after they fell sick.
Of these, the condition of three including a Morison’s seven-year-old son Dimah Gashnga are critical, they said. Dimah has been shifted to Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai while the others were admitted at Nongtalang CHC.
