Former Cong leader joins TMC in Chokpot
Former Rongrikimgre MDC, Willy D Shira on Saturday joined the opposition All India Trinamool Congress party in the presence of Meghalaya TMC leader Lazarus Sangma and others in Chokpot.
Addressing his supporters for the first time after joining the TMC, Willy D Shira said, “I am elated to join the Trinamool Congress family to continue serving the people of Meghalaya in the coming days.”
Donning the TMC symbol, Meghalaya TMC leader, Lazarus M Sangma said, “We are happy to see people responding to Meghalaya TMC’s mission. Willy D Shira is a very respectable leader and I am glad that he has joined us today to further our vision. It is needless to say that people have realised that TMC is the only party that can bring development in the state, and this trust of the people will be reflected in their votes in the upcoming elections in 2023.”
As more and more like-minded voices join Meghalaya TMC, the party is gradually making its mark as the only credible alternative to fight the proxy-BJP MDA government led by Conrad Sangma.
Earlier, former Chief Minister and TMC leader Dr. Mukul Sangma had elaborated on the political ambiguity in Congress and his reason for joining hands with the Trinamool Congress. He said, “The INC leaders are hobnobbing with NPP and BJP leaders. INC does not take a stand against BJP or NPP. While we were in INC we fought against these forces with utmost sincerity. However, our intent had been diluted and suppressed. All our efforts have been negated by some leaders in INC. Our commitment remains to protect people. That is the reason we looked for a new party, with a new symbol, which can give us that platform.” He further added, “TMC is on one side, and all the other parties are on the other side.”
Meghalaya TMC whole heartedly welcomes Willy D Shira into the family fold and hopes to work in complete collaboration with the grassroots leaders to make a positive impact in the state.
