Former KHADC CEM and Nongthymmai MDC passed away
Former Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor passed away at the age of 54 years on Thursday evening in Civil Hospital Shillong after a prolonged illness.
Latiplang or Bah Heh as popularly known by the electorates of his constituency and well wishers was the son of (L) Joe Lyngdoh and the husband of Melvina Wanniang and the father of four children.
His mortal remain was taken to his residence in Demthring Block-IV from Civil Hospital Shillong and kept for Thursday night and will be shifted to his parents residence in Nongkhyriem Nongthymmai on Friday morning till his funeral to be held on Sunday.
Bah Heh completed his graduation in Arts from Shillong College, Shillong in 1999 and thereafter he joined the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front or the HNYF.
Bah Heh rose to the position of President of HNYF and during his tenure as President, Bah Heh went to Block-II an area of dispute between Assam and Meghalaya and voiced out for the Khasi people who were subjected to harrasment and extortion from militants.
Bah Heh resigned from HNYF in 2002-03 and successfully contested the MDC Election from Nongthymmai constituency and he remained undefeated since his maiden victory in 2004 till his untimely demise.
Bah Heh holds the distinction of being first Independent member of Meghalaya District Council (MDC) to be elected as the Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on November 2019 and holds the position from 22.11.2019 till 07.02.2020.
Bah Heh unsuccessfully contested the Assembly Election from Nongthymmai constituency on an erstwhile PDF ticket in 2018.
