Forum slams govt for delay in releasing relief to farmers in Ri Bhoi District
SHILLONG: The Eastern Ri-Bhoi Development Forum (ERBDF) has slammed the state government for allegedly delaying in extending relief to farmers whose paddy fields were affected by hailstorm last year.
After submitting a memorandum to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma here on Thursday, chairman of the Forum S Thabah said there are over 220 farmers in around 90 villages affected by the hailstorm.
“However, unfortunately there has been delay by the state government in extending necessary relief to all the affected farmers,” he said.
According to him, this was despite the fact that the headmen of the villages had already submitted their respective reports to the Umsning C&RD block for compensation.
“We therefore urged the chief minister to intervene into the matter and ensure the fund for the purpose is sanctioned at the earliest,” Thabah said.
