Four Bangladeshi nationals held, Rs 16.9 lakh contraband seized

In a continued effort to curb illegal infiltration and trans-border crimes, alert troops of the BSF Meghalaya Frontier carried out multiple successful operations along the Indo-Bangladesh international border on April 7 and 8.
On April 7, acting on specific intelligence, troops of the 172 Bn BSF intercepted and apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross into Indian territory near Umkiang, East Jaintia Hills. Preliminary questioning confirmed that the individuals were residents of Sylhet district, Bangladesh. They were handed over to the Police Post Umkiang for further legal action.
The following day, BSF troops conducted operations across various sectors and seized 36 cattle along with a large quantity of contraband items—such as sugar, cosmetics, and other prohibited goods—valued at Rs 16.98 lakh. These items were being smuggled across the border and were handed over to customs and police authorities.
In another operation in South Garo Hills, one Bangladeshi national was apprehended after illegally crossing the international boundary. The individual was taken into custody under PS Baghmara for further legal proceedings.
These operations reflect the BSF Meghalaya Frontier’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the international border. The force remains vigilant and dedicated to its zero-tolerance policy against infiltration and illegal cross-border activities.
