Four more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, toll at 165
Four more deaths – one in Tura and three in Shillong – took the death toll due to COVID-19 in the state to 165 on Tuesday.
26-year-old Sahip A Sangma, a resident of Kharukol Jalaigre in South Garo Hills district passed away at the Tura civil hospital on Monday night while Tympang Maya Tariang (58) of Nongtalang village in West Jaintia Hills died at Bethany hospital, Saralin Mylliem Umlong (45) of Umlyngka, Shillong at Woodland hospital and Lomena Lyngdoh Mawlong (59) of Mawlai Mawkynroh at Supercare hospital today, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
A total of 147 people tested positive during the day, taking the total number of cases to 1,456, while 90 have recovered from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries to 14,650.
Dr War said the new cases include 90 in East Khasi Hills district, 22 West Garo Hills district, 12 Ri Bhoi district, 7 East Jaintia Hills district, 5 West Khasi Hills district, 4 West Jaintia Hills district, 3 South Garo Hills district, 2 South West Garo Hills district and 1 each in East Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.
Dr War informed of 90 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 53 are from East Khasi Hills, 16 West Jaintia Hills, 11 West Khasi Hills, 7 Ri Bhoi, 2 East Jaintia Hills and 1 West Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 16,271 COVID-19 cases out of which 1,456 are active cases, 14,650 recovered and 165 deaths.
With 1,055 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 143 cases, 94 in West Jaintia Hills, 64 cases East Jaintia Hills, 53 West Garo Hills, 20 in West Khasi Hills, 14 in South West Khasi Hills, 5 East Garo Hills, 3 in South Garo Hills, 3 South West Garo Hills and 2 in North Garo Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,53,972 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,37,701 were tested negative for the virus even as 329 persons are in institutional quarantine and 1,127 under home quarantine.
There are 1,11,934 entrants from outside the state.
23, 925 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 17,835 had received the second dose, while 38,270 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,045 got the second dose as on Tuesday.
Moreover, 1,13,389 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 13,546 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
