Four women cricketers from Meghalaya selected for International Tour
Four local state women’s players and two of Meghalaya’s guest players have been selected to a tour of the UAE from December 19, 2020.
The players include Daiaka Emigale Warjri, Debasmita Dutta, Neha Hajong and Deiphibapynshngain L Mawnai besides Saee Kiran Purandare and Vandana Mahajan who played for MCA as guest players.
The 10-day tour will be coached and managed by Saranya RS, former Kerala and Karnataka player and a National Cricket Academy coach who is also a chief coach of the senior state team. They will represent team Pathbreakers. The tour is sponsored by Play True which is a Trivandrum-based player-management and sports marketing company with a vision to help champions emerge from girls and in association with G-Force Academy, one of the oldest cricket academies in the UAE.
Debasmita who is a resident of Rynjah and an MBA Graduate who had earlier played for the Karnataka Junior team when MCA was not affiliated to BCCI is elated and siad, “the feeling is great as to get such a wonderful opportunity, we were really surprised since we know that it’s has been only 2 years since our state team has been participating in BCCI tournaments and having been selected in this big tour is a big thing for me and my teammates. It’s the first time for an organisation in India to give such an international exposure tour for a women’s team at the grassroot level apart from the National Team.”
Daiaka, from Mairang and studying 2nd semester at Synod College thanked God, her coach the MCA for the golden opportunity to play outside the country. “It’s the greatest blessing for me to be in this journey as cricket is not just a game for me it’s something else… I’m passionate about…especially from where I’m from cricket is not as popular as football or any other sports, hence I want to be the example for others in my community,” she said.
Neha, who is studying B.Com at St. Anthony’s College is also elated on being selected after her good performance in the BCCI tournaments. Similarly, Deiphi who is studying at Shillong College and a resident of Mairang thanked her mentors PJ. Lamare and L Wankhar for grooming them to be good cricketers.
The MCA is proud of the girls who are currently in the state team for under 23 and seniors for making it big. This way the game of cricket will be popularized in the remote places of the state and more girls will come out to play cricket which promises a bright future for them.
